Are you ready to take your volunteerism to the next level?
As a Super Volunteer at the Redwood Empire Food Bank, you’re not just showing up (and wearing the infamous blue safety vest)—you’re stepping up. With your leadership and dedication, you help ensure that our Distribution Center runs smoothly, safely, and efficiently, so that more than 140,000 people in our community can receive nutritious food.
Whether you’re in the Warehouse or in our Food Connections Market, Super Volunteers play a vital role in our mission to end hunger.
What is a Super Volunteer?
Super Volunteers are experienced, committed individuals who go above and beyond to support our staff and fellow volunteers. Working closely with our team, Super Volunteers help lead daily tasks, welcome and train volunteers, and create a positive, safe, and supportive environment for all.
What You’ll Do:
Super Volunteers help in two key areas at our Distribution Center. Your presence ensures that even when staff are tied up, volunteers feel supported, confident, and part of something bigger.
In the Warehouse
Supervised by Volunteer Production Supervisor, David
- Greet and welcome volunteers as they arrive, encouraging them to return by sharing details about our Punch Out Hunger rewards program.
- Ensure volunteers were properly checked in at the lobby kiosk and help orient them to key amenities such as restrooms, handwashing stations, and the volunteer breakroom.
- Lead volunteer groups in sorting and packaging fresh produce.
- Set up stations for our senior programs and gleaning tasks, and guide volunteers through the process.
- Oversee quality control as volunteers inspect dry goods, produce, and bread.
- Ensure safety by modeling best practices and supporting a welcoming, respectful environment.
In the Food Connections Market
Supervised by Market Manager, Kim
- Greet and welcome volunteers as they arrive, encouraging them to return by sharing details about our Punch Out Hunger rewards program.
- Ensure volunteers are properly checked in at the lobby kiosk and help orient them to key amenities such as restrooms, handwashing stations, and the volunteer breakroom.
- Clearly communicate daily shift duties and warehouse safety reminders to new and returning volunteers.
- Help sort and organize fresh, refrigerated, frozen, and shelf-stable foods for partner distribution.
- Ensure proper waste disposal and instruct others on compost, recycling, and trash.
- Maintain cleanliness and order, including consolidating pallets and clearing debris.
