In a world of abundance, it's sobering to realize that not everyone has access to the most basic necessity for survival: food. Imagine going about your daily life, working hard to provide for your family, and yet still struggling to put a nutritious meal on the table. This scenario is not an abstraction; it's the reality faced by 1 in 6 people in Sonoma County.

September marks Hunger Action Month, a time when communities across the nation come together to address the critical issue of hunger. It's a time to raise awareness, take action, and make a tangible difference. This year, we invite you to be a part of the movement to End Hunger in Our Community.

6 Way You Can Take Action

  1. Donate: Your financial contribution, no matter how modest, can go a long way in providing meals for those in need. In fact, with our buying power, the Redwood Empire Food Bank can turn every $1 donated into $3 worth of healthy groceries for our neighbors in need.
  2. Volunteer: Dedicate your time to volunteering at the Redwood Empire Food Bank. Sorting, packing, and distributing food are all essential tasks that make a direct impact on alleviating hunger.
  3. Advocate: Raise your voice for change. Support policies that address food insecurity, promote access to nutritious food, and uplift marginalized communities.
  4. Complete the Hunger Action Month Activity Calendar: This calendar has 30 hunger relief activities—one for every day in September! Download, print, and share this calendar with friends and family.
  5. Share how you’re fighting hunger on social media: Help spread the word by posting what you're doing during Hunger Action Month. Be sure to tag @redwoodempirefoodbank and use #HungerActionMonth.
  6. Download the Hunger Action Month Toolkit: With its arsenal of impactful resources including volunteer flyers, food and funds materials, and sample social media messages, the Hunger Action Month toolkit equips you with the necessary items to make a tangible difference in ending hunger in Sonoma County.

In the spirit of unity and compassion, let's make this Hunger Action Month a turning point in the fight against food insecurity. By supporting the Redwood Empire Food Bank, you’re actively participating in creating a community where no one goes to bed hungry. Together, we can be the change we wish to see in the world.

Join the movement to end hunger by donating, volunteering, or advocating at refb.org/ham. Every step you take—big or small—is a step towards a hunger-free Sonoma County.
